KIA ORA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA LAVA,
FAKAALOFA LAHI ATU,
KIA ORANA, NAMASTE, NI HAO!
Greetings everyone — as Christmas creeps closer, everyday life at Viscount keeps on getting better!
— Today our roll total is 652 students – the biggest we have been all year. We are happy that we have been able to open our 5th New Entrant class at the start of this term. So far this year 191 new students have joined us at Viscount, and 113 students have moved on.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE – ‘SKIDS’
— The programme now operates from the room on the side of our hall by our volleyball court. It is pleasing to see how so many well-organized parents are making use of this service — it is very cheap to have your child looked after at SKIDS! It would be great to see more parents use this service, instead of allowing their children to roam the streets after school!
DAMAGE TO OUR SCHOOL
— It is really disappointing to have had a couple of instances of vandalism at school; one where several thousands of dollars damage was done to our toilets block by high school students, and one where windows and doors were damaged by children allowed to roam around unsupervised by adults on the weekend!
Be aware that we now have very good C.C.T.V. security cameras operating around the school, and almost all vandals will be recorded acting stupidly – DON’T RISK IT! Viscount Learning Community works best when everyone uses its’ facilities well – don’t let one or two idiots spoil that for everyone.
–Here’s an example of how our school works well when used by ‘good people’. Zumba classes in the early evenings have been started by Mrs. Sesika Tangi, a good ‘Viscount Mum’ and one of our cleaners. It’s terrific to see so many people turning up 2 or 3 nights each week to get ACTIVE – well done Sesika!
— You will have realized that they havent moved yet and we are not pleased about how the Ministry of Education has let us down with this job! I have been assured by the removal contractors that the rooms will start to be taken away on 15th November and should all be gone within a 2 week period. We cant wait to get the use of all that extra ground so that we can provide some further very interesting learning opportunities for our students.
— Many of you will already know about the violin classes we have been running over the last 3 years because your children have been involved. Two weeks ago I was ‘blown away’ by the support our community showed at the CONCERT where our 80 violinists and various singing groups performed for you. It was also great to see Viscount featured on ‘Seven Sharp’ last Friday – our tutor Mei Fong Edgar and our students all did a good job in showcasing their talents and enthusiasm for music.
Since the T.V. feature we have had so many offers of help from around New Zealand – a very humbling week! By the end of next week we may have nearly 50 extra violins given to us by people around the county, to add to the 20 that Viscount already owns. This means that even more students will be able to take part in violin lessons each week!
– Our last conferences for 2016 will be held on 7th/8th of December, and End-of-Year Reports will be handed out then. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you make the effort to come along to your child’s last chance to report on their learning for the year! Prize Giving Assemblies for all students will be held on Wednesday 14th December – we look forward to seeing you all here (AGAIN!)
— CRICKET – We are very proud that our Y.7/8 Girls Cricket Team has again won the Auckland Champs and are now preparing to fly to Christchurch on 23rd November to compete at the N.Z. Championships. The article in last week’s Manukau Courier (front page) has got many people around New Zealand enthusiastic about helping us financially to make the trip to Christchurch, and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of both some big donations from local companies, as well as smaller donations from many, many ordinary folks around the country wanting to help our students – N.Z. is a great place to live huh?
Congratulations must go to Mr. Leigh Stevens our hardworking, enthusiastic coach, and to the girls:- Adyhana URIKA-FILIFILIA (Captain), Tame TAUPAU, Kiki TEURA, Heaven TAHANA, Vaaiga PURCELL, Maegh GREAVES, Doreen LAVEA, Elizabeth LAVEA, Ana MANUOPANGAI, Loreal URIKA-FILIFILIA, Valini PAASI, Mercy TOMAI and Ilaisaane TAUFA. NOW we get to see how we measure up against the best players in N.Z. – GO GIRLS!
— Both our boys and girls volleyball teams competed at last weeks Auckland Champs, after winning the South Zone Champs earlier. Both teams went undefeated through pool play and into the finals, where the girls finished runners-up to a good Manurewa Int. team, and the boys finished runners up to Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate. Well done to our talented coach Mrs. Kuinita Gayford, and of course to our players who kept the Viscount flag flying high at this top level:-
Girls – Kiki TEURA, Tame TAUPAU, Elizabeth LAVEA, Doreen LAVEA, Adyhana URIKA-FILIFILIA, Jeaniro MUAVAE, Louisa FAIREKA and Ana MANUOPANGAI.
Boys – Lima ENOSA, Ami FANGUPO, Etoni AFU, Mason CHAN-TING, Mose TUIALII, Kenton AFIMEIMOUNGA, Taniela MAKISI, Jason MAXWELL and Yaqeen ABRAHAMS
— Late last term the Primary Schools Rugby Champs were held at Marist rugby club. Our Over-50kg boys team played well all day and won the title of Auckland Champions (to add to the Y.7/8 First 15 title won by our older students earlier in Term 3). Congratulations to our great coach Fred Leniu, and to the boys:-
Curtis MACSHANE, Christian IORAMO, Martin PULEMAU, Joseph AFIMEIMOUNGA, Mosese MANUOPANGAI, Petah ROPATI, Murray CHURCH, Blessing SEFO, Bless MAPUSAGA-PAILA, Gabriel SHEPHERD, Pouli MANISELA, Paula TUITAKAU, and Jonathan IOSEFA.
- It’s great to see that so many students have joined the new MANGERE ATHLETICS club that meets every Tuesday at Centre Park.
- We held another great school Athletics Day on Wednesday this week – very good to see so many parents down at the track supporting. Now our school teams will be selected and begin training to compete at Mt. Smart track in the Primary Champs on Wednesday 23rd November, and the Y.7/8 Champs on Friday 25th November.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at school over the next few weeks.
