MONDAY 10th NOVEMBER 2014
KIA ORA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA LAVA,
FAKAALOFA LAHI ATU,
KIA ORANA, NAMASTE, NI HAO!
Greetings everyone! we are well into the last school term for the year, and things are certainly busy at Viscount. As Christmas races closer every day, here is some of the latest news from your school!
Because we are in the midst of some very exciting building developments, we do not have any classroom spaces left for more New Entrants (5 yr. olds) until the beginning of 2015. We currently have 6 classes full of 5 yr. old students, and look forward to being able to enrol your little ones to school next February.
You will have noticed that our new building is well underway. All the ground works have just about been finished, all the heavy lifting by large cranes has been completed, and from now on you should see it starting to look more like a real building! At next week’s Community Meeting I will be able to share with you some of the planning details, and outline to you how we intend to make the most of ‘VISCOUNT UNLIMITED’. Because the builders are using most of our existing car park it would be good if parents could avoid driving through past the office, and instead drop off children next to school in the Manukau Rovers car park.
Our last conferences with you and your children are on 10th and 11th December. We are always very pleased with the enthusiasm from parents to come along and hear about learning for their children and to give us valuable feedback – we regularly get 90% to 95% turn out!! However, it also amazes and disappoints us how a very small group of parents/guardians continue to find it too hard to put aside a little time to play an important part in their child’s learning. End-of-Year Reports will only be available to parents who come along to these Three-Way-Conferences!
HIGH SCHOOLS FOR 2015
If you have not yet enrolled your Year 8 child at a High School for next year, and need any help at all, please do not hesitate to come up to school and talk over options with us.
A.P.P.A. MUSIC FESTIVAL
Last week our school choir had great fun taking part in the opening night of the Auckland Primary Schools Music Festival at the Auckland Town Hall. This is one of the best events of the year – the festival has been running for 60/70 years now, and each night, every year, a different combined choir of about 300 children sings alongside school orchestras, school cultural performances, and very talented solo musicians. Viscount is very proud of its contributions to this festival each year, with our music specialist Bond Tagaloa being a co-conductor. This year’s Choir teacher was Ms. Jillane Strickland, and we were particularly proud of two students who performed solo on the night – Taufa Latu (electric ukulele) and Unaloto Leleifi (solo vocal item). Make a point of coming along to next year’s festival, you won’t regret it!
Our B.O.T. is looking forward to hosting the last Community Meeting for the year next week on Tuesday 18th (6:30pm) – come along and share in the latest news, and let us know what ideas you have.

- 2014 is certainly taking shape as a VINTAGE YEAR at Viscount!
Two weeks ago both our Girls and Boys teams competed at the Auckland Championships held at the Waitakere Trust Centre – all the Champion Zone teams were there and the competition was HOT. The Girls team went unbeaten throughout the day, winning a very close final against Ferguson Intermediate – CHAMPIONS!
The Boys team also went unbeaten through the day, winning a great final against Manurewa Intermediate – CHAMPIONS!
Big congratulations must go to their coach Mrs. Kuinita Gayford who keeps on raising the standards in Volleyball at Viscount, and of course to the players:-
GIRLS- Hetary Aimasi, Ruth Dean, Regina Purcell, Julienne Ah Wong, Hope Ieu Nati, Tame Taupau, Flowenna EtenaTokuma and Sasa Lelenoa (Manager).
BOYS- Kitiona Vai, Damien Faiane, Tinirau Rairi, Komani Pa’asi, Pita Orika, Rona Tuialii, Ethan Purcell and Ami Fangupo (Manager).
Last week our Y.7/8 Girls Team played for the right to become Auckland Champions, and to represent Auckland at the N.Z. Finals in Palmerston North on 26th, 27th and 28th of November. The girls showed great determination and skills to beat Henderson Intermediate in the semi-final, and Takapuna Intermediate in the final – this means that Viscount are AUCKLAND CRICKET CHAMPIONS for 2014, the 8th time we have won the Auckland title since the National Competition began in 1999!! This surely is a record unrivalled by any other school in Auckland, and made even more amazing given that our players do not have the opportunity to play club cricket locally, nor do we get any help from Auckland Cricket to build or develop the game. Big congratulations to our cricket coach Mr. Leigh Stevens, and to the girls who are all now going to the N.Z. Finals:- Ruth Dean, Hetary Aimasi, Flowenna Etena Tokuma, Julienne Ah Wong, Regina Purcell, Lillian Ozucargil, Tame Taupa’u, Susana Finefeuiaki, Kiki Teura, Catherine Mosaati, Diane Amanoni, And Adyhana Urika Filifilia.
