WEDNESDAY 10th JULY 2013
KIA ORA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA LAVA,
FAKAALOFA LAHI ATU,
KIA ORANA,NAMASTE, NI HAO,
Greetings, everyone – as we get closer to a ‘WELL DESERVED’ holiday break for everyone (13th July to 28th July), here is some of the latest news from your school.
Thanks to everyone who braved the cold over the last couple of days to come out to hear about their child’s progress in learning so far this year. We all know how important for young learners it is to have the support of their parents in their learning!! We hope that you were as impressed as we are with your children’s ability to talk confidently and knowledgably about their learning, and their goals for the rest of 2013.
If you were not able to come along over the last 2 days we will hold your child’s report until you make an appointment to come up to school for a 3-way conference.
NEW ENTRANT CLASSES
We are currently searching for a suitable teacher to open our next New Entrant (5 yr. olds) early in Term 3. If you have already pre-enrolled your child, or if your child turns 5 soon, wait for us to contact you regarding a starting date for this class.
Sadly, we say goodbye soon to Mrs. Abraham (Dempsey) in Room 16 – she is moving on to a teaching job at an International School in Abu Dhabi (in United Arab Emirates). Whilst Mrs. Abraham has only been with us for 1 ½ years, we have all enjoyed working alongside her. We welcome Mrs. Jenna TeWake as the new teacher for Room 16 next term.
ENROLLING IN YEAR 9 FOR 2014
This is the time of year when all our Year 8 students and their families should be making plans for their enrolment at the High School they have chosen for next year. We have information about enrolling supplied to us by several High Schools already – Onehunga High, Wesley College, St. Paul’s College, Auckland Girls’ Grammar – if you are not sure what to do next, don’t hesitate to come up to school and we will help you to get to where you want to!
We are very pleased that Millennium Sanerivi, one of our Year 8 students, has recently won an Aspire Scholarship from the government which will give him the funds to attend any Private school he chooses in N.Z.!! Millennium and his family are very deserving recipients of this scholarship, and he has decided to enrol at King’s College in 2014 – GOOD LUCK MILLENNIUM, MAKE US ALL PROUD!
We are looking forward to having Ms. Sarah Wang Chen back with us next term as our Mandarin language teacher. Sarah has been completing university studies in Shanghai over the last 6 months (since working at Viscount last year), and we are looking forward to being able to offer all Y.5/6 and Y.7/8 students high quality Mandarin language programmes in the future.
To our B.O.T. members who are attending the National Trustees Conference on our behalf next week.
SIR PETER BLAKE TRUST
This week our Y.5/6 students all enjoyed some time with Leadership Role Models from this outstanding organization. OnTuesday, Lady Pippa Blake and seven other ‘leaders’ spent the morning with our 8 classes of Y.5/6 students, talking about the qualities of leadership, and aspiring to be people who will make a difference in the world. Well done to the students in Room 31 who prompted this experience through their learning discussions – let’s hope that we can maintain some communication with some of the visiting leaders!
SHOES – SHOES – SHOES – SHOES
Recently we have been fortunate to receive lots of shoes through contacts we have in the Running Shoe industry, and a group of keen parents/students in East Auckland. If your children need some shoes at the moment, they can come up to the office and we will see if we can help out!
